Founded in 2004 by Gianmarco Antonuzzi and Clémentine Bouveron, Le Coste is a remarkable wine project in Gradoli, Lazio, overlooking Lago di Bolsena. Inspired by their experience with renowned French vignerons like Bruno Schueller and Dard et Ribo, the couple saw untapped potential in the region’s unique volcanic soils and native grape varieties.
What started with three hectares of abandoned vineyards has grown into a 30-hectare estate, including 13 hectares of vines, 5 hectares of olive groves, and diverse farmland. Their vineyards, nestled among chestnut and oak trees, thrive on iron-rich, well-draining volcanic soil. Farming is biodynamic, going beyond organic principles to ensure soil health and biodiversity.
Le Coste produces a diverse range of wines, all crafted naturally. Grapes are harvested by hand and fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, without additives or sulfur. Winemaking techniques vary each season, with fermentation in stainless steel, resin, or wooden vessels, including methods like carbonic maceration and extended skin contact. Wines are bottled unfiltered and unfined, preserving their purity.
The primary red grape is Greghetto (the local Sangiovese), while whites include Procanico and Malvasia. Their wines are vibrant, expressive, and deeply tied to their terroir. Le Coste is not just a winery—it’s a commitment to craftsmanship, sustainability, and the natural expression of Lazio’s volcanic land.
